Chain cable stopper is a device that clamps the anchor chain when a ship is sailing or at anchor. Also known as chain stopper or chain cable controller, it refers to a special device for holding or clamping the anchor chain. It is fixed between the windlass and the anchor chain wheel, separated from the wildcat, and bears the pulling force of the anchor and the anchor chain when the anchor is retracted and anchored, so that it will not be transmitted to the wildcat. Commonly used are screw chain stopper, knife chain stopper, tongue chain stopper, cam chain cable stopper, chain locker and roller knife chain locker, etc.
According to the requirements of CCS code, the knife chain stopper should be able to withstand the experimental load equivalent to the anchor chain, and its stress should not be greater than 90% of its material yield strength value. According to the regulations of classification societies such as GL, LR and DNV, the chain catcher should be able to withstand 80% of the minimum breaking load of the passing anchor chain, and in this case, its stressed members should not produce permanent deformation.
The chain stopper is arranged on the deck between the windlass and the hawse drum to clamp the hawse. After anchoring, the chain cable stopper on the lock can transmit the pulling force of the anchor chain to the hull, so that the windlass is not under stress; when sailing, the chain catcher bears the gravity of the anchor and part of the anchor chain, and will be affected by the inside of the anchor chain drum. The anchor sticks closely to the hull and does not collide. Therefore, the chain brake base and its supporting structure bear a large load force, and the rationality of its structure is directly related to the safety performance of the ship.
It is set between the windlass and the anchor chain drum to fix the anchor chain and prevent the anchor chain from slipping out;
The holding force generated by the anchor and anchor chain is directly transmitted to the hull to reduce the load of the windlass and protect the windlass;
Bear the anchor's gravity and inertial force when sailing.
